I tried, and I tried again. I tried it in audio, I tried it in print. It just doesn't work for me. I was just in Barcelona this past summer, and could actually visualize all the setting, but the characters were just not ringing, singing or grabbing me. Perhaps in 10 years it might be different.
I HAD to finish it for book club (or felt I had to, anyway) so I kept going. But I agree; it didn't haunt and enchant me the way it seems to have done others. Luckily, there are lots of other books in the world--and on the shelves.......
ReplyDeleteYou guys must be ok up in your part of ME if you are posting. I talked to my friend in Eliot this morning and she said they lost power Thurday night and are still without. Trees and wires are down all over the place.
ReplyDeleteStay warm and be safe.
Thanks for asking Kaye....I'm going to include an update on my Sunday Salon post tomorrow, but we're in better shape than many others. Our power was out for about 12 hours, and many lower down on our peninsula are still without power. We have lots of new firewood to 'harvest' but are definitely counting ourselves among the lucky ones.
ReplyDeleteI felt the same way about Shadow of the Wind. I did finish it, but the whole time I was wondering why. Silly I know. Then I foolishly read his next book, Angel's Game, because the summary was intriguing. Again, the book was a puzzle. AND after I finished it I learned that is was the prequel (or sequel, or something) to Shadow of the Wind. Ugh! Never again. I'm done with Ruiz.
